SPF 30 vs SPF 50 – skillnaden mellan kemiskt och fysikaliskt solskydd

SPF 30 vs SPF 50 – the difference between chemical and physical sunscreen

SPF 30 or SPF 50 – what’s the actual difference?

During summer, many people talk about sun protection, but it’s not always easy to understand the difference between various SPF levels and types of sunscreens. Here, we'll explain it simply.

What does SPF mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and indicates how much protection the product provides against the sun's UVB rays – the rays that can cause sunburn.

Many believe that SPF 50 is twice as strong as SPF 25 or much stronger than SPF 30, but the difference is actually smaller than one might think.

  • SPF 30 blocks approximately 97% of UVB rays

  • SPF 50 blocks approximately 98–99%

So, it's only a difference of a few percentage points, but for sensitive skin, pigmentation, or intense sun exposure, SPF 50 can still be a good choice.

The difference between chemical and physical sunscreen

There are two common types of sun protection – chemical and physical.

Chemical sunscreen

Chemical filters absorb UV rays before they harm the skin. They often feel lighter on the skin and rarely leave a white cast.

Often suitable for those who:

  • want a light feel

  • wear makeup

  • want invisible protection

Recommendation for a lightweight day cream with chemical sun protection.

Physical sunscreen

Physical filters, often mineral filters like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays away.

Often suitable for those who:

  • have sensitive skin

  • are easily irritated

  • want to use mineral-based sun protection

Recommendation for a day cream with physical sun protection, perfect for sensitive skin.

Most importantly – use enough

Many people use too little sunscreen, which means the protection is much lower than what's stated on the bottle. Don't forget to reapply throughout the day, especially after swimming or heavy sweating.

Sun protection all year round

Sun protection isn't just important at the beach. UV rays affect the skin even in daily life and can contribute to pigmentation spots, sensitivity, and premature skin aging.

That's why many people today use SPF daily – especially on their face.

At Salong VIVO, you'll find carefully selected skincare products and sunscreens for various skin types and needs.
