CryoPen - Removal of skin lesions
What is a CryoPen?
CryoPen is an innovative, fast and effective treatment to remove unwanted skin changes such as warts, pigment spots, age spots, fibroids and other benign skin changes. It uses extremely cold nitrous oxide gas to freeze away the unwanted cells without damaging surrounding tissue. The treatment is almost painless and often produces quick results with minimal recovery time.
What can be treated with CryoPen?
CryoPen can treat benign skin changes, including:
- Warts
- Pigment spots
- Age spots
- Solar lentigo (sun damage)
- Seborrheic keratosis
- Skin tags (fibroma)
- Molluscs
- Cherry spots (red skin spots)
How does the CryoPen work?
The CryoPen uses a high-pressure jet of extremely cold nitrogen oxide that freezes and destroys unwanted skin cells. The treatment is thorough and affects only the treated area, which reduces the risk of scarring or damage to healthy skin. Cryotherapy is a quick procedure where each treatment takes only a few seconds, depending on the size and type of skin change.
Who cannot be treated with CryoPen?
CryoPen treatments are not recommended for everyone. The following groups should avoid treatment or consult a doctor first:
- People with extremely sensitive skin or certain skin conditions that may affect recovery
- People with immunosuppressive conditions or autoimmune diseases
- Pregnant women or nursing mothers
- People with vascular problems or poor circulation
- If you have an infection or inflammation in the area to be treated
- Dark-skinned individuals may be at higher risk of pigment changes (hypo- or hyper-pigmentation)
How many treatments are needed?
In most cases, one treatment is enough, but sometimes additional treatments may be needed, especially if the area is larger or if there is a stubborn skin change. A follow-up treatment can be carried out after approximately 4-6 weeks if necessary.
What can be expected after the treatment?
After the treatment, the treated area may redden and swell slightly. A blister may form within hours or days, which is part of normal healing. It is important not to pick at or remove any scab that may form, as this can increase the risk of scarring. Healing time varies depending on the treatment area and your skin type, but normally the skin heals within 7-14 days. In some cases, a hypopigmentation may occur in the area which may take longer to disappear.
